378 Smartphone Tablets Belonging To SMKN 5 Jember From Ministry of Education and Technology Stolen By School Employee
JEMBER - 378 smartphone tablets belonging to SMKN 5 (vocational school) Jember, East Java are missing. This tablet is aid from the Ministry of Education and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in 2019.
The tablet brand Advan type 8001 is planned to be used in the 2020 school year. However, it continues to be stored because of the pandemic.
The disappearance of the tablet was discovered after the head of the TU of the agribusiness vocational school, Sutikno, saw a pile of cardboard tablets in the warehouse.
Upon inspection, the cardboard containing 10 tablets each was missing.
"But after I saw it, how come it was empty," said Sutikno, Wednesday, October 6.
Next, he and the other staff checked all the tablets in the warehouse. Apparently, 378 tablets were found missing.
Sukorambi Police Chief Sigit Budiono said his party was investigating and tracing the location of the incident.
The result is no damage in the tablet storage warehouse. So that his party suspected that the tablet was stolen by an insider at the school.
Finally, it was discovered that the thief was BY, an employee. BY was arrested and confessed his actions.
"When the atmosphere is quiet, the perpetrators take tablets little by little. Once stolen, there are 2 tablets taken," said Sigit.

To the police, BY admitted that he sold the stolen tablet to a counter on Jalan Kalimantan, near the Jember University (Unej) campus.
Meanwhile, the owner of the counter said he did not expect that the tablet he sold was stolen.
For his actions, BY was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft.
"The motive, according to the person concerned, was that the stolen money was used to pay off debts and living expenses," said Sigit.
