Indonesia's COVID-19 Improves, Task Force Targets No More Death Cases

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the government is targeting no more COVID-19 cases to die.

This target is planned considering that the development of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is currently starting to improve. The number of COVID-19 deaths is also decreasing.

"Right now it's important to look at the development of deaths by numbers, not percentages, because our current target is to reduce the death toll to zero," Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, October 5.

However, Wiku also highlighted 5 provinces that experienced the highest weekly increase in COVID-19 cases, namely Central Java with 100 cases, East Java with 81 cases, Aceh with 63 cases, Papua with 44 cases, and Bali with 41 cases.

Wiku asked the province to reduce the case fatality rate in its area. Because, Wiku said, the high death rate in the province was in tandem with the high number of COVID-19 treatment beds.

"There are still provinces that are quite high in both deaths and active cases in line with BOR conditions or bed occupancy in the province," said Wiku.

He explained that Papua and Aceh both had the highest number of deaths and active cases this week. In fact, it is also included in the top 5 highest BOR, namely Papua 20.25 percent, and Aceh 14.27 percent.

Other provinces with the highest BOR are DI Yogyakarta 15.84 percent, Bali 11.28 percent, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) 11.44 percent.

"Although this BOR figure is relatively low, when compared to the national BOR rate which is only 6.34 percent, and even most provinces are below 10 percent, it is necessary for these 5 provinces to pay attention to immediately lowering the BOR in their respective regions by immediately increasing the BOR rate. the quality of handling COVID-19 patients so that all of them can recover," he concluded.
