Ancelotti: Madrid Lost Not Because Camavinga Was Left-back
JAKARTA - A surprise occurred in the Champions League Group D match when hosts Real Madrid were humiliated by Sheriff Tiraspol 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday morning. However, coach Carlo Ancelotti did not want to make the formation he used as a scapegoat for Los Blancos' defeat.
The Italian coach made a series of changes. He put Fede Valverde at right-back and Eduardo Camavinga at left-back.
In that match, Real Madrid went on the offensive, but it backfired when the Sheriff scored the winner in the 90th minute.
"I think Camavinga is used to playing there and Valverde pushes forward a lot on the right," Ancelotti said after Real Madrid's defeat.
"The game was under control, we didn't lose because we put Camavinga at left-back. We lost because of bad luck, because of throw-ins..."
In terms of how Ancelotti sees the game as a whole, he tries to stay positive.
“More than worried we are sad. We played with intensity, commitment…” he explained.
"We lost because of small details. The team played well. We could have done better in the last minutes, but it's difficult to explain."
Meanwhile, Eden Hazard is showing signs that he will return to his best form in this match. Ancelotti hopes the Belgian will start adding goals again in the near future.
