JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian issued an instruction requiring the implementation of strict health protocols for the success of the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua.

The Director-General of Territorial Administration (Adwil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal, explained that Minister of Home Affairs Tito required the strict procedure through the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) Number 46 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of XX PON in Papua Province.

"The enforcement of health protocols is shown for the success of this biggest national sporting event," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.

There is also a provision in the Minister of Home Affairs Number 46 of 2021 which emphasizes that the organizers are obliged to ensure that athletes, officials, committees, spectators, and the community around the location have received the vaccine, at least in the first stage.

Restrictions on the number of spectators who attend in person at the stadium are limited. It is not allowed to hold concerts together.

Check the health of guests and spectators by showing the results of the PCR test (2x24 hours) or antigen test (1X24 hours) and proof that they have been vaccinated. Provide health facilities and health workers at certain points.

For this reason, the Ministry of Home Affairs is ready to embrace and synergize with relevant ministries and institutions, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the National Armed Force (TNI)-National Police (Polri), the provincial task force, the Health Service, and the PON organizing committee.

The Minister of Home Affairs explained that strengthening the discipline of health protocols is the main thing in the national sports event. The Ministry of Home Affairs will campaign for the distribution of masks in a number of cities that hold PON.

The movement is intended to invite public awareness to always improve the discipline of wearing masks.

To note, the XX PON is a promotional event that will make people outside Papua interested in knowing and understanding the natural conditions in this province with its various beauties.

In addition, the PON event is not only a sporting match but also has national values, nationalism, and the momentum of national awakening from COVID-19.
