Tinal Clement

From its name, the skate arena is named after the 10th Deputy Governor of Papua, Klemen Tinal, who died on May 21, 2021.

The late Klemen Tinal was also listed as the General Chairperson of the All-Indonesian Roller Skate Association (PB Perserosi) for the 2017-2021 term.

The late Klemen Tinal was the most instrumental figure in the construction of this international standard roller skating arena. Giving this name as an award or dedication from the figure who is the first regent of Mimika Regency.

Yes, many remember Klement Tinal as a figure who had an important role in fostering roller skating in Papua, even for Indonesia.

He initiated the construction of a roller skate arena at the end of 2019 for the implementation of the Papua PON. Then construction began in early 2020 based on Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 1 of 2019 with a fairly qualified contractor.

Initially the arena was named Roller Sport Stadium Papua Bangkit. Then Pengprov Perserosi Papua then proposed a name change to Klemen Tinal Roller Sport Stadium.

“We have great respect for the late Clement Tinal. Mr. Klemen is a very great service for roller skating in Papua," said the Head of the Committee for the Papua PON Roller Skate Sports, Yonas Randan Buak, in his official statement, Friday.

"His attention to athletes in Papua and even rollerblading athletes throughout Indonesia is extraordinary. Therefore, to honor and remember his services, it is very appropriate for the name of this roller-skating arena to use his name," added Yonas.

Clement Tinal is indeed gone. However, his great service to the sport of rollerblading in Papua and the country will not be forgotten. May all his kindness and struggle for rollerblading in the country yield proud results.

The construction of the Clement Tinal Roller Sport Stadium has also been completed. The plan will be inaugurated simultaneously with the first day of the roller skating competition at the Papua National Sports Week on Sunday (27/9).

Yonas also said that the Klemen Tinal Roller Sport Stadium was one of the revivals of roller skating on Earth Cenderawasih.

"We benefit from the late Mr. Klemen Tinal, who always pushed for the construction of this arena to be completed immediately," said Yonas Randan Buak.

"He is really an encouragement not only for development, but also the spirit of athletes and the success of the XX Papua PON," Yonas added.

Competition Implementation

Given that it is still in the pandemic period, the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has determined that the Health protocol must continue to be carried out during the Papua PON event.

Therefore, according to Yonas, the capacity of 650 people for this arena is expected to be filled by anyone who is lucky to watch the roller skating race that has been distributed.

"Tickets are not sold because this is purely non-commercial, but because Papua is considered a sports city, we still open up opportunities for local residents to watch, most importantly they have registered themselves," he said.

"There are families of athletes and regional officials who were invited so we hope the arena can be crowded with spectators. The most important thing is the health protocol with masks, social distancing must always be remembered," said Yonas.

The roller skating competition is scheduled to run from September 27 to October 3, 2021. A total of 16 teams from various provinces in the country will send their best athletes.

From the data received by Antara, as many as 77 athletes outside of the Papua Province will compete to be the best. The details are 44 sons and 33 daughters.

Of these, DKI Jakarta became the team with the most athletes, which was 12 people. Then West Java and East Java were in second place by both passing 10 athletes for the Papua PON roller skating sport.

They are lucky to be able to experience directly competing in the grandest and best arena in the country, even in Southeast Asia.

Roller Skating Center

When the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Muhadjir Effendy visited a number of arenas in Papua, two weeks ago, he was amazed by this grand arena.

Muhadjir said that the presence of the best and most magnificent arena should be a trigger for roller skating athletes in the country.

He also hopes that after the Papua PON, the Klemen Tinal Roller Sport Stadium can be used as a place for training and placement of roller skate athletes from all over Indonesia.

"Preparing this place is certainly not a joke. So, after PON, it should be a training center and training center for roller skating athletes in Indonesia," he said.

"Most importantly, how do athletes have to score more and more achievements in accordance with the arena level that is already international class," he added.

Detje Ahmad Nursyamsi as the Official Speaker of the XX Papua Skate Skates and the owner of the Balance Roller Skate Club in Bandung also expressed the same thing.

This former roller skate athlete in the 90s said that the roller skating arena in Jayapura was indeed very proud.

Detje hopes that the arena can be used as well as possible by the entire roller skating community in Papua and throughout Indonesia.

“We know that the history of this arena is the struggle of the late Mr. Klemen Tinal. So, we should take care of it together and make the best use of it," said Ahmad Nursyamsi.

"Papua has the potential to produce great rollerblading athletes with this magnificent venue. And I hope that after PON, many benefits can also be obtained from this cool arena, especially for athlete development and achievements."
