Erick Thohir Is Outspoken About The Many Corruption In SOEs, What Is The Cause?

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that so far, it is often the case that individuals in SOEs commit acts of corruption. Therefore, Erick emphasized that he did not want this to happen again.

"I don't want any state-owned companies where corruption has often occurred", he said at the virtual 'Launching Produk Bersama Warung Pangan', Thursday, September 16.

According to Erick, the reason for the corruption by these individuals is that they are too profit-oriented, not a good business process.

"Because the project base is not a good business process", he said.

In addition, Erick also asked the private sector that is collaborating with state-owned companies not to cheat. According to Erick, both parties must be able to ensure that the benefits will be obtained in each company.

"I also ask the private sector partners with SOEs not to cheat. It must be a win-win, especially now in a very transparent era, digitalization, COVID is forcing digitalization to occur. This means transparency and an open market", he said.

Erick also emphasized that he did not want SOEs to become an ivory tower. He said, in collaborating with companies, MSMEs, or other private parties, they must provide mutual benefits.

"We don't want the SOEs to become an ivory tower, but I want to make sure that the cooperation between the SOEs and the private sector and regional government must be win-win, mutually beneficial", he said.
