Highlights Of Tangerang Prison Fire Tragedy, Habiburokhman: Drug Users Convicted, Officials Don't Care What Capacity

JAKARTA - The fire at the Class I Penitentiary in Tangerang, Banten, has resulted in a new analysis. A member of House of Representatives Commission III from the Gerindra Party faction, Habiburokhman, suspects that there are deviant practices carried out by law enforcement officers in applying articles to suspects in drug cases. As a result, he said, Tangerang prison was over capacity.

"We have received reports that many officers have criminalized users by ensnaring the traffickers", said Habiburokhman, Thursday, September 9.

"So quote and quote there is pressure if you don't provide this, then the users will become distributors", he continued.

In fact, said Habiburrokhman, the officers who handle drug abuse cases are called as if they don't care about the limited capacity of prisons.

"It doesn't matter, officials like that don't care what percentage of capacity, how many tens of percent is important if you don't cooperate with quotes and quotes and from users become distributors. That's what makes overcapacity", he explained.

Therefore, the Deputy General Chair of Gerindra asked the authorities to evaluate the public reports related to this problem. He reminded him not to let this happen in other prisons.

"That's a lot of input from the community to us. Please check and evaluate", said Habiburokhman.
