500 Drug Convicts Undergo Rehabilitation In Salemba Detention

JAKARTA - A total of 250 inmates of the Class 1A Salemba Detention are undergoing narcotics rehabilitation for the next 6 months.

Head of the Salemba Detention Center, Yohanis Varianto, said that 60 percent of the prisoners in the detention were mostly narcotics. While the rest are prisoners of other general crimes.

"There are 250 prison inmates who are currently being rehabilitated, this is the second stage of rehabilitation. We will continue with 250 prison inmates for the second stage. This year a total of 500 people have been rehabilitated and the previous 250 inmates have been completed", he told VOI at the Salemba Prison on Thursday, September 9.

Varianto as he is familiarly called explained that every inmate who has just entered the Salemba Class 1A Rutan first receives an assessment such as placement and expertise.

"When the person in question (the inmate) in the cell still has the potential to be affected (drugs) again or not, we will separate places. They will undergo a rehabilitation program", he said.

Yohanis said that the Salemba Detention currently has a rehabilitation program for narcotics users.

"So when the initial assessment indicated that the person concerned was still affected (narcotics) we immediately placed him in the rehabilitation room. 6 months of rehabilitation", he said.

The rehabilitation process is carried out for 1 year divided into 2 stages. Namely, each stage was followed by 250 prisoners.

"We divide into 2 stages because the room does not accommodate", he said.
