Please Be Patient, 41 Inmates Killed In Fire Have Not Been Identified

JAKARTA - The 41 inmates of the Class I Tangerang Correctional Institution who died as a result of the fire incident has not been identified. So far, the identification process is still ongoing.

"It is still being identified, later when we find out who it is, we will inform the family", said the Head of the Banten Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office, Agus Toyib to reporters, Wednesday, September 8.

Based on the data, there are 2,072 prisoners in the Class I Tangerang Prison. However, specifically for block C2, which became the center of the fire, there were hundreds of inmates.

"(Total inmates) are 2,072 residents. The C2 fire incident is 122 people", he said.

With a large number of prisoners, the identification process also takes time. Meanwhile, the bodies of the dead inmates have been taken to two hospitals, namely, Dr. Sitanala and Tangerang District Hospital.

A fire broke out at the Tangerang Class I Prison on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result of the fire, 41 inmates died.

In addition, it was recorded that 8 inmates suffered serious injuries and 72 inmates suffered minor injuries. They have been taken to the clinic for treatment.

So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.
