Before Being Swept Away By River Current, This TKI From Adonara NTT Had A Chance To Call His Child To Warn Of Flood

NUNUKAN - The body of an Indonesian worker (TKI) who was reported to have been washed away by falling into a river during heavy rains in Inanam, Sabah, Malaysia was finally found.

The victim was found buried in mud on the 4th day of the search, Monday, September 6, 2021, at around 12.30 central Indonesia time.

Relatives of the victim Yohannes Solo when contacted confirmed this discovery. The migrant worker who was swept away was named Simon Sanga Tupe (68) from Adonara Island, Ile Boleng District, East Flores Regency, NTT.

The victim has been working in Sabah, Malaysia since 45 years ago, even the victim has a family in a neighboring country with a daily job as a company driver.

Yohannes Solo, who is from Nelelamadike Village, Ile Boleng Subdistrict, said that before the incident the victim had called his son not to leave the house because it was raining heavily which caused flooding everywhere.

The victim, who was at the company where he worked, was caught in the heavy rain, but he was still desperate to return to his home with a colleague who is a Malaysian by crossing a river.

He explained, the information obtained before the incident, the victim was desperate to cross the river with a low bridge condition, so it was flooded after seeing two other cars able to pass it.

"He (the victim) was desperate to cross his car, because he saw that two other cars could cross the bridge. Even though the river water was getting higher due to heavy rain on the day of the incident," said Yohannes Solo when contacted.

Yohannes Solo's place of residence with the victim is quite far apart, but they meet almost every day because of the close proximity of their workplace.

On the day of the incident, the search team immediately went along the river where the incident occurred, but only found his white car stuck in a pile of sand.

"The victim's car was found that day, it was also buried in the sand in the river," said Yohannes.
