As A Suspect In 4 Rape Cases And 1 Sexual Violence, Benjamin Mendy Gets Suspended From Manchester City

JAKARTA - Manchester City has suspended Benjamin Mendy, who is a suspect in four cases of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Mendy's suspension is in effect for the duration of the investigation into the case and police said the 27-year-old French player had been detained and was due to appear in court at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday.

"The allegations relate to three complainants who are over the age of 16 and are believed to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021", the Cheshire Constabulary police said in a statement.

In their statement, Manchester City said the player had been suspended from the team.

"Manchester City can confirm that about the indictment from the police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending investigation", the club said in a statement.

"This matter is the subject of a legal process and the club cannot comment further until that process is complete".

Manchester City will not make further comments as the matter is pending legal proceedings.

Mendy, who has 10 caps for France and won the 2018 World Cup, joined City from AS Moncao in 2017 for around £52 million.

He has won three Premier League titles with City, although injuries have limited his playing time, with the left-back undergoing knee surgery in the 2018-19 season.
