Luhut Emphasized That In The Next Few Days There Will Be An Increase In Data On COVID-19 Cases, What Is The Cause?

JAKARTA - The Coordinator for the Implementation of the Java-Bali Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, warned that in the next few days there will be an upward trend in data on confirmed cases and deaths due to COVID-19. This is because the government is in the process of revamping the data.

Coordinating Minister Luhut said that based on the PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) level 4 evaluation, the mortality indicator data has been entered as an assessment by the World Health Organization.

Previously, said Luhut, two weeks ago there were efforts to improve the data so that now it is getting better. However, the data in some areas need the next 1-2 weeks to be better. "There have been many reported cases of previously unreported deaths. I remind you that in the next few days there will be an increase in confirmed cases and also death cases issued by districts/cities. "There are several hundred or thousands of data that will be gradually released in the next 10 days," he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, August 23.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment admits that managing the data is not easy. Regarding the high mortality rate in several areas, said Luhut, the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) specifically asked for checking and intervention in the field.

"One of the (causes) of the high mortality rate, (because) the community is still reluctant to carry out centralized isolation so that it gets worse when self-isolation is late to health facilities", he said.

Therefore, Luhut said, the government urges people who are confirmed positive for COVID-19 to enter isolation centers provided by the government, which are guaranteed their medicine, food, and health workers.

"Positive COVID-19 is not a disgrace that must be covered up", he said.
