Gaining Power, The Taliban Captures The City Of Jalalabad In Afghanistan Without Resistance

JAKARTA - Taliban forces have taken control of Jalalabad, a key Afghan city in eastern Afghanistan, without a fight.

On Sunday morning, they secured roads connecting Afghanistan to Pakistan, officials said.

"There is no dispute in taking the place right now in Jalalabad because the government itself has surrendered to the Taliban", the Jalalabad-based Afghan official told Reuters.

"Giving way to the Taliban is the only way to save civilian lives", he added.

Western security officials have also confirmed the city's fall to Taliban forces, one of the outskirts of Kabul that is still under government control.
