Muhamamadiyah Contributes IDR 1 Trillion For Handling COVID-19

JAKARTA - Muhammadiyah made a donation of IDR 1 trillion for the handling of COVID-19. However, General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Abdul Mu'ti views that Muhammadiyah is still not doing much about this problem.

According to the Muhammadiyah website, Abdul's statement was made at the online forum of the University of Muhammadiyah Gresik, Monday, August 2, while remembering Kiai Haji Ahmad Dahlan's high standards in understanding the Qur'an.

According to Mu'ti, Kiai Ahmad Dahlan is of the view that every verse in the Qur'an must be practiced in real terms for the benefit of humans and the environment.

"Including situations like this, the role of mercy for Muslims and the role of mercy for Islam is actually very necessary", he said as quoted by VOI from the Muhammadiyah website, Wednesday, August 4.

"And because of that, then if we follow Muhammadiyah's actions since the pandemic was declared a national disaster by the government in March 2020, Muhammadiyah is working hand in hand with all components of society so that they can overcome and contribute in resolving the COVID-19 pandemic and the problems that exist", he added.

According to Mu'ti, Muhammadiyah has mobilized all its potential to be actively involved in handling the pandemic from the social, economic, health, and religious fields.

"Thank God, without intending to reduce the meaning and give a dimension in which Muhammadiyah works alone, we just want to mention a little how Muhammadiyah since the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the report we have received, has involved more than 83 hospitals from around 116 Muhammadiyah hospitals which are quite strong”, said Mu'ti.

"That does not include services through Muhammadiyah clinics and also involves more than 75.000 volunteers both from health workers and humanitarian volunteers and other volunteers, especially those related to social services and religious services", he added.

"And from the funding point of view, we have received reports that more than 1 trillion funds have been distributed by Muhammadiyah to help people from all walks of life during the COVID-19 pandemic", he said.

Even though he has worked optimally, Abdul Mu'ti feels that Muhammadiyah has not achieved what Kiai Ahmad Dahlan taught. It is this feeling that makes Muhammadiyah and all its members not stop to continue to provide solemnity and charity to the people, nation, and humanity.

“We certainly feel that we are still lacking in what we have done. But we don't want that the COVID-19 problem will continue and then we don't get up immediately and then we (hope) can carry on as usual", he said.
