KKP Arrests Boat And Four Myanmar Fishermen In Malacca Straits

BANDA ACEH - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) through the Supervision of Marine and Fishery Resources (PSDKP) Lampulo Base, Banda Aceh arrested four Myanmar fishermen and a boat without a national flag in the waters of the Malacca Strait.

"Four fishermen and their fishing boats were arrested for illegally catching fish in the waters of the Malacca Strait, Indonesian territory", said Head of PSDKP Lampulo Base, Banda Aceh, Basri, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 29.

Basri said the arrest of the fishermen and their boats took place on Wednesday, July 28 by the KKP patrol boat KP Hiu 2 with Commander Novry Sangian. The ship with the name PKFB 1603 with a weight of 34.86 gross tons (GT). The ship when caught flags the national flag.

From the initial inspection, the fishing vessel used a trawler or tiger trawler which is prohibited from being used in Indonesian waters, Basri said.

Four Myanmar fishermen who were crew members of the ship, namely Win Oo (32), the captain of the ship, did not have a passport, Nay Min (27), the crew of the ship, had a passport.

"And Kyaw Hiet (27), as a crew member, does not have a passport, and Zaw Min (23), a crew member, does not have a passport", Basri said.

Based on the results of the inspection of the ship and its crew, Basri said, violations were found, namely not having a valid licensing document from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

"The ship also uses prohibited trawling. Then the crew list does not exist, catching fish in the waters of the Malacca Strait on the continental shelf of the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone", Basri said.

As well as a dead tracking device that indicates to eliminate traces when catching fish in the waters of the Malacca Strait on the continental shelf of the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone.

"Now, the fishing boat along with four fishermen from Myanmar have been brought to the Langsa PDSKP Post for further inspection", Basri said.
