Shopee Will Close Shops Selling Fake Vitamins And Drugs
JAKARTA - Shopee Indonesia as an online shopping platform has taken firm steps to close shops that are indicated to be selling health products, such as vitamins and counterfeit medicines in its application.
This step is taken to protect consumers. Not only closing shops, but Shopee Indonesia's Head of Public Affairs, Radynal Nataprawira, said that his party is also working with the police and agencies to conduct further investigations when there are strong indications of counterfeiting of health products because they endanger the public.
"This step is a clear proof of Shopee's commitment to supporting the Indonesian government's efforts in handling COVID-19 and creating a safe online shopping ecosystem for users", he said in his official statement, quoted on Sunday, July 18.
Furthermore, Radynal said that his party received reports via social media regarding shops that were indicated to print their own drug packaging labels. As a follow-up to the report, his party immediately lowered the product in parallel to investigate the proof of authenticity from the buyer.
"If there are strong indications of counterfeiting, we will continue to block stores and cooperate with the authorities. Shopee is committed to continuing to provide safe and convenient shopping services for our users", he said.
As a marketplace, the products on the Shopee platform are uploaded directly by the sellers. However, he said, to continue to create optimal online shopping convenience.
Shopee has an internal team dedicated to monitoring and moderating products sold in the application to comply with existing regulations.
"Shopee's internal team monitors and supervises health products on the platform, including those indicated for selling counterfeit products. Every seller at Shopee has an obligation to comply with applicable rules and comply with the law", he explained.

Asks the public to report
Radynal also appealed to the public to pay attention to the packaging of medicines and to read product reviews purchased on the Shopee application. If there is a suspicion that the product being sold is counterfeit, the public is expected not to complete the purchased order first.
"These products can be reported via the 'Report this product' button on the top right side of the product page, and/or the seller via the 'Report User' button on the top right side of the store page".
"By reporting these products and sellers, the public plays an active role in keeping the online shopping ecosystem safer and more responsible".
Radynal hopes that sellers of health products will take part in accelerating the recovery of public health by taking into account the applicable regulations.
"In this difficult time, all parties must work together, both sellers, buyers, Shopee, and government officials. This is our shared responsibility", he said.
