88 Medical Workers In Sorong Papua Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - As many as 88 medical personnel in Sorong City, West Papua Province have tested positive for COVID-19. Last week, the number was 52 medical personnel who were positive.

A spokesperson for the Sorong City COVID-19 Task Force, Ruddy Rudolf Lakku said 88 medical personnel were positive as the spread of COVID-19 increased.

The 88 medical personnel who were positive for COVID-19 consisted of 30 people on duty at the Public health center, Aryoko Hospital, 27 Sele be Solu Regional General Hospital, and Mutiara Hospital, one medical staff.

Furthermore, at Pertamina Hospital as many as 15 medical personnel, and Herlina Hospital as many as 11 medical personnel.

Some of the medical personnel who were exposed to COVID-19 are self-isolating at home and some are in hospital.

He said that with the increasing number of medical personnel exposed to COVID-19, the community was expected to be disciplined in implementing health protocols.

"If medical personnel exposed to COVID-19 continue to increase, it is feared that services to the community will be neglected. There is no one to serve patients if many medical personnel are positive for COVID-19", he said in Sorong, as reported by Antara, Monday, July 5.

According to him, his party has received information that the COVID-19 Referral Hospital in Kampung Baru and the Naval Hospital have begun to be overwhelmed with treating COVID-19 patients due to a shortage of medical personnel due to a large number of positive COVID-19 medical personnel.

Ruddy appealed to the public to dispel the view that the coronavirus no longer existed because as many as 88 medical personnel were exposed to COVID-19, indicating the virus still exists.

"Let's apply health protocols, namely diligently washing hands, always wearing masks, keeping a distance, and avoiding crowds to protect ourselves and our families from the spread of COVID-19", he added.
