Qualcomm Releases Snapdragon 888 Plus, Honor's Flagship Phone Is The First To Be Equipped With This New SoC
JAKARTA - Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset in December 2020. Since then, a number of mobile phones have been equipped with this chipset.
Examples include the Galaxy S21 series, Mi 11, ROG Phone 5, to Xperia 1 III and iQOO 7 Legend which were not released in Indonesia.
Indeed, every year Qualcomm always launches flagship chipsets. However, since 2019, the company has also made a new tradition by refreshing the product in the form of the launch of the 'Plus' variant.
For this year, a few days ago Qualcomm released a variant of Snapdragon 888 which was named Snapdragon 888 Plus.
Basically, this chipset is just an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 888. This means that the Snapdragon 888 Plus variant has an improved speed compared to the 888 variant.
More specifically, this new flagship chipset relies on the Kryo 680 Prime core which is built on the ARM Cortext-X1. As a result, the Snapdragon 888 Plus clock rate reaches 2,995 GHz – from the previous 2.84 GHz.
Meanwhile, the other cores consist of three ARM Cortex A78 cores with a speed of 2.4 GHz and four Cortex A55 with a speed of 1.8 GHz. There is no increase in the GPU in this variant. Makes the Snapdragon 888 Plus variant look less fresh and attractive than the Snapdragon 865 Plus.
Instead of implementing a new GPU, Qualcomm instead prefers to focus on improving Artificial Intelligence performance. The sixth generation Qualcomm AI Engine embedded in the Snapdragon 888 Plus offers a performance increase of up to 20% compared to the previous series.
The rest, Snapdragon 888 Plus specifications are not much different from Snapdragon 888. Such as Spectra 580 ISP, Snapdragon X60 5G modem, connectivity features, and much more.
Honor Confirms That Its New Flagship Will Support Snapdragon 888 PlusAt the Snapdragon 888 launch event, Honor announced that it would launch a new phone with the Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset. Present of Product Line Honor, Fang Fei, revealed that the Magic3 series will be the first flagship to rely on this chipset.
“We are excited to see more advanced collaborations between HONOR and Qualcomm Technology. The improvements we've seen in Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G make it perfect for the HONOR Magic3 series flagship," Fei said as quoted by XDA-Developers, Wednesday, June 30.
