Revealed! UI Chancellor Ari Kuncoro Violates Dual Position Rules Since Becoming BNI's President Commissioner

JAKARTA - The Chancellor of the University of Indonesia Ari Kuncoro is suspected of violating the rules of concurrent positions while still serving as President Commissioner of PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI).

In the VOI search, it was found that the academic was appointed as the President Commissioner (Komut) of BNI at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGMS) on November 2, 2017.

The decision was then confirmed through the resolution of the EGMS No. 2 dated 2 November 2017 and received approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on 14 March 2018.

Ari took the strategic position by replacing Hartadi A. Sarwono, who was honorably dismissed by the company. At the time of his appointment, Ari was recorded as the main profession as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia since 2013.

At that time, BNI ensured that Ari was selected professionally by considering the capability aspect in question.

"He has no affiliation either with members of the Board of Directors, other members of the Board of Commissioners or with the Major and Controlling Shareholders," claimed BNI referring to the company's annual financial report.

For information, Ari Kuncoro was later appointed Chancellor of the University of Indonesia on December 4, 2019. In fact, at that time he still held the mandate as Komut BNI.

Finally, at the BNI General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) held on February 20, 2020, it was decided to appoint former Governor of Bank Indonesia Agus Martowardojo as the company's commissioner to replace Ari Kuncoro.

However, Ari's work in state-owned companies did not stop there. When he was 'expelled' from BNI, he had been proposed by PT Bank Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) to become the vice president commissioner.

This fact emerged based on the decision of the BRI Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) which was held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. Until now, Ari Kuncoro is still listed as the Deputy Commissioner of BRI as well as the Chancellor of UI.

The situation faced by the husband of Lana Soelistianingsih, the Head of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), is of course contrary to the code of ethics as an academic person.

Based on the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 68 of 2013 concerning the Statute of the University of Indonesia Article 35 Point C it is clearly stated that the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor are prohibited from concurrently serving as officials in state/regional or private-owned enterprises.

It was this Beleid that was later hit by Ari when he was still serving as the President Commissioner of BNI until now he has the status of Deputy President Commissioner of BRI.

Just so you know, Government Regulation No. 68 of 2013 was directly stipulated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia at that time, namely Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. This means that Ari Kuncoro disobeyed the orders of the head of state.

So, what about the UI Student Executive Board (BEM) which criticized the president and is now in the spotlight? Time and place are welcome.
