Bank Indonesia Revealed Three Strategic Things In Developing Sharia Economics

JAKARTA - Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said the development of Islamic economics is becoming increasingly strategic to be implemented immediately. This is because the productive sector with Islamic principles is proven to have better resilience in the face of pressures like what happened last year.

"Let's work together to build Islamic economic progress in Indonesia and God willing, it can be a source of national economic growth", he said when giving an online speech at the Launching of the Sharia Economics Textbook, Tuesday, June 29.

Perry added, efforts to advance the Islamic economy require scientific support to meet demands and also overcome existing problems.

"That is the essence of our efforts, which is reflected in the launch of this book", he said.

Broadly speaking, the BI boss summarized three important things that must be done to continue to encourage Islamic economics to grow.

First, it is necessary to develop joint efforts in accelerating vocational education and certification that support the improvement of Islamic economic finance, both from campus and through collaboration with industry.

“Vocational education is very important to support Islamic economic entrepreneurship, the economic development of Islamic boarding schools, and MSMEs. Meanwhile, certification is useful for Islamic finance, both in banking, financial markets, and waqf", he said.

Second, strengthen and expand the center for the study of Islamic finance economics, both in institutions such as Bank Indonesia, campuses, and non-governmental organizations.

"Institutional functions have a fairly important role in developing knowledge in the field of Islamic economics through the use of existing infrastructure and networks", he added.

Then the third is to continue to campaign for innovation and scientific development in this sector with the aim of building competence so that it can develop according to the needs of the times.

"Increasing sharia scientific activities and activities in Islamic boarding schools, study centers, and strategic institutions indirectly also raises awareness of the importance of the Islamic economic sector, and it is an effective campaign", explained Perry.

For information, strategic steps to continue to expand the scope of sharia science are increasingly being intensified by the government.

Based on data from the Ministry of Education and Culture for the period of 2021, it is stated that the number of undergraduate-level Islamic economics and finance study programs is 858 study programs. Then, for the master's level, there are 64 study programs and 5 doctoral study programs.
