Applying For A Trademark, Oppo Is Seriously Interested In The Automotive Industry

JAKARTA - There are many rumors that smartphone manufacturers are currently trying out the automotive industry, especially in making electric cars. Oppo has also shown a fairly high interest lately in the automotive sector.

Previously, Apple, Xiaomi, and Huawei also appeared to enliven the list of companies that will develop electric cars in the coming years.

According to reports, Oppo has applied for a trademark registration called "OCAR". It was filed by Oppo Guangdong Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. which has a classification of “scientific instruments.”

Cited from the Gizchina page, the trademark of the Chinese company is currently awaiting substantive examination. Another reliable source, Oppo Group is now preparing a team for the manufacture and development of cars.

The team in charge will investigate and search for resources and talent from the industry chain, and will be led directly by Oppo founder and CEO, Chen Mingyong, also known as Tony Chen.

"Oppo is indeed investigating, understanding, and conducting some pre-research, but has not officially defined the project at this time", said an Oppo representative.

He also added, the company always has a layout in terms of car-engine interconnection, including the expansion of flash charging ecology to the automotive field.

As reported earlier, Chen is reported to have had further talks with supplier Tesla and battery maker CATL.

Likewise, Oppo's Vice President of software engineering, Andy Wu, has also attended interviews for positions related to autonomous driving. Although it is not yet known for sure when this car will be introduced by Oppo, by applying for the trademark, the company seems serious about trying out the automotive industry.
