Commission X of the DPR asks the Supreme Court to make a decision on the MBG budget to be carried out starting in 2027

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives MY Esti Wijayati asked the government to immediately follow up on the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling regarding the budget for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, which must be separated from the education budget. This is to improve the quality of education in the country.

"If the Constitutional Court has decided so, then of course we must follow up on the decision," said Esti Wijayati, Monday, August 3.

Esti also reminded that the Constitutional Court's decision was final and binding. "So according to the Constitutional Court's decision, in 2028 MBG will no longer take from the education budget," said the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) politician.

Esti assessed that although the Constitutional Court had given a maximum adjustment period until the 2028 Fiscal Year State Budget, it was better to implement the Constitutional Court's decision as soon as possible, starting in the 2027 fiscal year.

"As much as possible, it can be done starting in the 2027 budget year because of the great hope for the world of education, we can improve and improve the quality of education through the improvement of human resources. Starting from improving the quality of educators, educators, students, students and others," said Esti.

"Also so that the infrastructure is more adequate, the welfare of teachers, lecturers, and educators is better, more equitable, and of better quality for everyone," added the Yogyakarta dapil legislator.

The head of the DPR Education Commission also emphasized the importance of the Government paying more attention to the Backward, Frontier, and Outermost (3T) regions and post-disaster areas. Including damaged school buildings.

"We keep hearing that school buildings collapse, even some have the human lives of our children who come to school to study. It is ironic if the State does not immediately repair damaged schools," he concluded.

As is known, the Constitutional Court, through the reading of the Decision Number 40/PUU-XXIV/2026, ordered that the budget for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program be separated from the education budget in the State Budget (APBN).

Since its inception, the MBG program has been included in the education budget cluster based on the constitutional mandate, amounting to 20 percent of the state budget. The Constitutional Court also ordered that the separation of the MBG budget from the education budget be implemented no later than in the 2028 state budget.
