Police Investigate Mobile Phone Theft for Martabak Worker's Child Gift

JAKARTA - Police are investigating a case of stealing a mobile phone that was a birthday gift for a pancake vendor's child, which occurred on Jalan AMD Raya, Petukangan Utara, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta (Jaksel), on Tuesday (28/7).

"The crime scene (TKP) is in Larangan Kreo, Tangerang, but Pesanggrahan is still back up to be able to reveal it," said Pesanggrahan Police Chief Kompol Seala Syah Alam, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 29.

He said the victim with the initials KA suffered losses from the incident, namely the loss of a shoulder bag containing Rp100 thousand, a watch, an ATM card, and four mobile phones for a child's birthday present.

Currently, the police are checking the crime scene, asking for witness information and collecting evidence, as well as coordinating with the Ciledug Police.

"After going to the crime scene, communicating with the reporter/complainant and witnesses, communicating with each other, then contacting the Ciledug Police for further handling," said Seala.

Furthermore, officers coordinated with witnesses and combed through surveillance cameras (CCTV) for further investigation.

Previously, a video went viral on the Instagram social media through the @wargajakarta.id account which showed a mini martabak trader being a victim of theft in the Jalan AMD Raya area, North Petukangan Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta, Tuesday (28/7) afternoon.

The incident occurred while the victim was resting and fell asleep next to his cart. The bag stored in the cart was then taken by the perpetrator when the victim was unaware of the surrounding situation.

Based on CCTV footage, the perpetrator came on a motorcycle with a colleague. One of the perpetrators then got off the motorcycle, approached the cart, and took the victim's bag before leaving the scene.

As a result of the incident, the victim lost a bag containing four mobile phones. Two of them are known to be mobile phones that have been prepared as birthday gifts for the victim's child.

As a result of this incident, the victim suffered a loss of IDR 10 million.
