Galaxy Z Fold 8 Reportedly Wider, Ultra Version Brings 200 MP Camera

JAKARTA - Samsung is rumored to be preparing two Galaxy Z Fold 8 models to be introduced at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, 2026. One of them has a shorter and wider shape, while the Ultra version is said to rely on a 200 megapixel main camera.

CNET quoted Saturday, July 11, saying the names of the two folding phones are still uncertain. Early leaks point to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. However, the latest information actually mentions that the wider design model will use the name Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the device that resembles the Fold 7 becomes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The name Ultra has reportedly appeared in the Bluetooth SIG database. The list of protective accessories in the Wireless Power Consortium or WPC database is also considered to strengthen the possibility of Samsung preparing two Fold 8 models.

Samsung has not announced the two devices. The company just confirmed that Galaxy Unpacked will be held on July 22. The latest Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Glasses are also expected to be introduced.

Fold 8 is Shorter and Wider

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to have a body resembling a passport, shorter and wider than the Fold 7. A photo of a mock unit uploaded by information leaker Sonny Dickson shows the differences in the shape of the Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Mashable said the Fold 8 is likely to have an outer screen of 5.4 inches and an inner screen of 7.6 inches with a ratio of 4 to 3. The Tarun Vats leak mentions an outer screen size of 5.5 inches with a ratio of 16 to 10.

The two screens are said to use a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz, which makes the movement of the image look smoother. The Fold 8 is estimated to weigh 201 grams, 9.7 millimeters thick when folded and 4.5 millimeters when opened.

ZDNet Korea reported that the Fold 8 will use ultra-thin glass as thin as 60 micrometers or 0.06 millimeters. The protective layer of the folding screen is thicker than the 45 micrometer glass on the Fold 8 Ultra.

The thicker glass is said to increase durability and make the screen crease less visible. The wider shape is also allegedly prepared by Samsung to face the iPhone Fold which is rumored to carry a similar design.

The Fold 8 is said to be available in cream, graphite, lavender, and pistachio colors. The Ultra version is expected to be available in cream, graphite, green, and purple. Other reports mention black, white, and green options for online sales.

Ultra version relies on 200 MP camera

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to retain the shape of the Fold 7 which has an outer screen of 6.5 inches and an inner screen of 8 inches. Information leaker Ice Universe said the screen resolution would increase significantly compared to the Fold 7.

The rest of the Journal, as quoted by 9to5Google, said the Fold 8 will bring two rear cameras. The arrangement consists of a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with a wider field of view.

The phone is also said to have two 10-megapixel selfie cameras, one on the outer screen and one on the inner screen.

The Ultra version is expected to carry three rear cameras. The main camera has a resolution of 200 megapixels, accompanied by a 50 megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10 megapixel telephoto camera to shoot objects from a distance. The two front cameras each have a resolution of 10 megapixels.

CNET also notes that both models are likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, as used in the Galaxy S26 line. The Fold 8 is said to have 12 gigabytes of RAM and a 4,800 mAh battery, while the Fold 8 Ultra uses a 5,000 mAh battery.

Both are expected to be available in 256 gigabytes, 512 gigabytes, and 1 terabyte storage capacities.

Fold 8 Price Not Confirmed Yet

The official price has not been announced. Rumors circulating say the Fold 8 can be sold starting at 2,000 US dollars, the same as the Fold 7. The Ultra version is estimated to reach around 2,200 US dollars.

The price of the Fold 8 is still likely to rise. Samsung previously raised the price of the 1 terabyte capacity Fold 7 from 2,420 US dollars to 2,500 US dollars. The 512 gigabyte version also rose from 2,120 US dollars to 2,200 US dollars, about nine months after the device was launched.

The shortage of memory chips that has driven up the prices of products from a number of manufacturers, including Apple, is also expected to affect Samsung.

The model name, specifications, and prices are still from rumors and leaks. Samsung will only open up its certainty in the Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22.
