Cho Seung Woo's Story to Return to Acting After 3 Years with "The East Palace"

JAKARTA - Actor Cho Seung Woo marks his comeback project with Netflix's latest series, The East Palace. This drama is his latest drama after three years through Divorce Attorney Shin.

Through this series, Cho Seung Woo plays a king who asks for help from two mysterious people to solve problems in the palace. He first played a role with Nam Joo Hyuk and Roh Yoon Seo.

"My character's name is King. He doesn't have a name in the script. When I read it, I immediately thought, "Wow, I finally got the chance to play the role of King." That in itself was an incredible attraction for me. There are many character differences but there is a conflict between King and Queen that is fun and it's a mix of fantasy and historical genres," Cho Seung Woo said at a press conference for The East Palace series on Wednesday, July 8.

Speaking about his character, the 46-year-old actor explained, "The King is a very isolated and lonely figure. The curse that haunts the palace has taken the lives of his sons, leaving only one heir left, who is also constantly threatened by evil spirits. He also has to bear a huge political burden in leading the country. I hope viewers can remember this complex emotional burden when watching the King's character. "

The East Palace is also Cho Seung Woo's first collaboration with Netflix and the actor's third project with director Choi Jung Gyu.

"This is indeed my first official Netflix original series. Here we have Yoon Seo who can be said to be like Netflix's golden child. Many of my previous dramas have aired on Netflix, but this is the first project I have taken on specifically as a Netflix original production from the beginning," explained Cho Seung Woo.

"The director always calls by the character's name and he calls me "King". He did the same thing when we worked together on The King's Doctor years ago. When we reunited on this set, he looked at me and said, "Ah, the King has arrived." It felt so warm and familiar," he continued.

The East Palace tells the story of King (Cho Seung Woo) who experiences a mysterious incident until he recruits Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk), a ghost hunter, and Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo), a queen who has the ability to communicate with ghosts.

Meanwhile, the series The East Palace will be released on Netflix starting July 17.
