Ordered By Jokowi, National Police Chief Instructs Staff To Fight Thugs
JAKARTA - The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed the entire Regional Police and Resort Police and ranks to eradicate acts of thuggery that are troubling the public.
The instruction follows a direct request from Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the National Police Chief to take firm action against thugs who often harass container drivers in the Tanjung Priok area, North Jakarta.
"All Region and District Police in the ranks must take firm action against disturbing acts of thuggery. This is to ensure safety and provide a sense of calm to the community," Sigit said in a written statement as quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 10.
The National Police Chief said that he had given direct instructions to the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, General Commissioner Agus Andrianto, and the entire Regional Police Chief took firm action and did not leave any room for community elements who carried out thuggery acts.
General Sigit also asked his ranks to release any arrests of thugs. It aims to provide a deterrent effect for the thugs.
"The state will not lose to thuggery acts. Persons and thuggery should be immediately eliminated, arrested, and solved," said Sigit.
