Trump agrees to dilute Iran's uranium under UN supervision

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has agreed that one possible solution to the Iranian nuclear issue is to dilute (reduce the concentration of substances) highly enriched uranium in Iranian territory under UN supervision, according to a report by Axios.

Previously, the United States (US) insisted that all highly enriched nuclear materials be removed from Iran.

Reported by ANTARA from Axios, Friday, June 12, concrete steps related to Iran's nuclear program will be reported and implemented within the framework of a broader agreement, which can be reached after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.

Previously, on Thursday (11/6), Trump said the memorandum of understanding, which regulates the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz immediately without transit fees and the restoration of shipment volume to pre-war levels within 30 days, will be signed as soon as this weekend.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched an attack on a number of targets in Iran, including Tehran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. Iran also retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.

Then on April 7, the US and Iran announced a temporary ceasefire and continued talks in Islamabad which ended without results.

Then, on May 15, Trump stated that he would be satisfied if Iran stopped uranium enrichment for two decades. In response, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stated that it had no intention of giving up the rights guaranteed in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The US is also trying to limit Iran's nuclear ambitions - which it is suspected of having - while Iran insists that it must first receive peace guarantees before engaging in talks on its nuclear program.
