The Ministry of Communication and Information Speeds Up Digital Infrastructure Development In 2022
JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate will accelerate the development of digital infrastructure in Indonesia. It is planned that this program will be prioritized in 2022.
Starting from adding Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to ensuring that the National Data Center (PDN) project begins to be built as part of accelerating digital infrastructure.
"In 2021 the Ministry of Communication and Information will complete the construction of 4.200 BTS, currently in the construction process, and continue in 2022 as many as 3,704 new BTS", Johnny said in his statement, Wednesday, June 9.
By 2024, it is targeted that there will be 9.586 BTS towers spread from Sabang to Merauke to ensure that the transmitter stations can provide an even frequency for the people of Indonesia.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will also optimize the Palapa Ring network in 2022 through the Palapa Ring integration program along 12.083 kilometers from land and sea.
Johnny said that land cables will dominate the integration of the Palapa Ring with a cable length of 8.203 kilometers and submarine cables for 3.880 kilometers.
To realize the integration of the Palapa Ring, the total capital of IDR 8.6 trillion is needed, which will be divided into two work periods in 2022 with a budget of IDR 3.5 trillion and in 2023 with a budget of IDR 5.1 trillion.

The provision of internet access does not escape the digital infrastructure pursued by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in 2022. It is recorded that in 2021 there will be 4.574 internet access points that have just been opened by the Ministry of Communication and Information.
"In 2022, there will be a massive deployment of 22.000 access points and it will continue to increase every year until there are 78.391 internet access points available by the end of 2024", said Johnny.
Another infrastructure that is being improved to achieve equitable digital transformation is the provision of satellite capacity. Until June 2021, Indonesia has recorded satellites with a capacity of 21 gigabits per second (Gbps) and will be increased to 30 Gbps by the end of the year.
Entering 2022, the satellite capacity will be added again by 7 Gbps to 37 Gbps and is expected to reach 117 Gbps in 2024.
Analog TV and 5G Network Migration
Kominfo also focuses the work budget on the Post, Telecommunication, and Broadcasting Monitoring Center with a target of 514 cities and regencies that will receive a telecommunications service quality measurement tool later in 2022.
Migration from Analog TV to Digital TV will also be the focus of Indonesia's digital infrastructure development in 2022. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics in 2022 will provide equipment in 15 regions that have not yet conducted multiplexing broadcasting.
In addition, to support the performance of TV services in Indonesia in 2022, 206 TVRI transmitters will be revitalized and Kominfo will also start distributing set-top boxes for people who need digital TV services.
Welcoming the fifth generation or 5G network, Kominfo is also preparing a new frequency network for mobile broadband in 2022 of 1000 MegaHertz (Mhz) and it is hoped that by 2024 the total for mobile broadband in Indonesia can reach 1.310 Mhz.
Finally, the National Data Center Program (PDN) in Indonesia will begin in 2021 for the Jabodetabek area while in 2022 construction in another location will begin.
"So that by 2024, two national data centers will be able to serve 75 percent of ministries, institutions, and regions", Johnny concluded.
