Menko Polkam: Contact Shootings of the Apparatus with KKB in Yahukimo to Maintain the Safety of the People

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago said the shooting incident between the TNI-Polri joint team and the armed criminal group (KKB) in Yahukimo Regency was one of the efforts to maintain the security of local residents.

"It's all about them (the apparatus) securing the residents or Indonesian citizens here. Because with security that can make this national development situation can be done well, of course it must be done by the TNI, by the Police," said Djamarisaat giving information after accompanying Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to review the Dekai Hospital, Yahukimo, Papua Mountains, Tuesday, April 21, reported by ANTARA.

He said that security efforts would be carried out continuously to implement the development agenda in Papua.

According to him, regional stability is the key to optimally realizing various priority programs.

"Efforts have been made, are being made until today and will be implemented. Until when? Until it is completed and developed so that it can run well for the benefit of our people here," he said.

He also explained that indeed some time ago, there was an arrest of KKB by the Cartenz Task Force.

"That is our brother who is in the forest there, wants to come here and was arrested here," said Djamari.

Djamari also emphasized that the situation in the Yahukimo region in general is currently in a safe and controlled condition.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs emphasized that the security apparatus continued to take measured steps to ensure regional stability and protect citizens.

Based on the information collected, the contact shooting occurred last week when the joint team was patrolling and passing through Jalan Trans Papua until the shot hit the tactical vehicle.

A moment after being fired, the joint team personnel then retaliated in response to the attack.

However, the situation heated up again when the KKB fired again from two different directions, namely the right and left sides of the road.

The exchange of fire occurred again and from the direction of the forest came a shout indicating the presence of the armed group.

Regarding this incident, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs assessed that the contact shooting was an effort by the TNI-Polri to ensure security until peace was realized and the acceleration of development could be carried out properly.
