The Key to the Effect of Deterring Corruptors, the KPK Urges the DPR to Immediately Pass the Asset Confiscation Bill
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) considers that the Asset Confiscation Bill must be immediately passed. This policy can strengthen efforts to eradicate corruption and deter perpetrators.
"The confiscation of assets from criminal acts is an important instrument to provide a deterrent effect because the perpetrators not only lose their freedom but also lose the economic benefits obtained from the crime," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters in a written statement quoted on Monday, February 23.
Budi said the Asset Confiscation Bill was in line with what the anti-corruption commission had done when it caught corruptors with money laundering (TPPU) crimes. But, a clearer mechanism is needed so that the jerking effect can be felt more.
"The Asset Confiscation Bill is expected to strengthen the follow the money approach, including in terms of tracing, freezing, seizure, and confiscation of assets suspected of originating from criminal acts while upholding the principles of due process of law and human rights protection," he said.
"KPK considers the enactment of this bill will be an important complement to the existing legal regime, as well as strengthening the synergy between law enforcement in efforts to eradicate corruption."
Meanwhile, Commission III of the DPR RI DPR began discussing the formation of the Asset Confiscation Bill on January 15, 2026. The draft will consist of 8 chapters and 62 articles.
Then, on February 10, 2026, Commission III of the DPR stated that there were four priority bills to be discussed this year. Among them is the Asset Confiscation Bill.
