Strong Wind Hit Binjai City, 14 Houses Were Damaged

JAKARTA - Strong wind hit Binjai City, North Sumatra Province on Monday, May 31 at around 15.30 p.m. local time. The strong wind damaged 14 houses in Binjai.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Binjai City noted that of the 14 houses that were damaged, 2 of them were heavily damaged and 12 were lightly damaged.

"The damage caused by strong wind occurred in three villages in 2 sub-districts, namely Jati Makmur and Pahlawan sub-districts, North Binjai Subdistrict and Sumber Mulyorejo sub-district, East Binjai District", said Head of National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) Disaster Data and Communication Center Raditya Jati in his statement, Tuesday, June 1.

Raditya said this weather phenomenon had an impact on 14 families. So far, there is no information about any injuries caused by this incident.

"the BPBD has coordinated with sub-district authorities as well as local communities to collect data and evacuate fallen trees", he said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the North Sumatra region will still have the potential for heavy rain which can be followed by lightning or thunder and strong winds until tomorrow, Wednesday, June 2.

The BMKG also analyzed the presence of tropical cyclone Choi-Wan which could have an indirect impact on weather conditions and waves around Indonesia.

The BMKG issues an updated analysis of areas with this potential, including North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku and Maluku.

In addition to the threat of danger on land, the potential for extreme weather can also occur in the waters. The BMKG weather analysis noted the potential for forecasting wave heights until tomorrow.
