Indonesia Will Stop Importing RON 92, 95 and 98 Gasoline in 2027, Bahlil: Only Crude
Bahlil explained that the reason for this adjustment was because it had implemented the mandatory biodiesel program and the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) which was inaugurated by President Prabowo on January 12. Thus, in the future, the government will only import crude oil. Meanwhile, the fuel products will be processed entirely in the country.
"This is so that we no longer import too many products (BBM), but later what we prioritize is the crude," said Bahlil in a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Thursday, January 22.
Bahlil added that the implementation of mandatory biodiesel in Indonesia has reached B40, namely a mixture of 40 percent palm oil and 60 percent solar, so that it is able to reduce national solar consumption. Meanwhile, national solar consumption is in the range of 38-39 million kiloliters per year.
The Chairman of the Golkar Party also said that through the biodiesel policy coupled with the operation of the Balikpapan RDMP, the national demand for solar could be met from within the country. In fact, Indonesia has the potential to experience a surplus of around 1.4 million kiloliters (KL).
"Because we have a surplus of 1.4 million KL, then in 2026 we will no longer import solar," he explained.
As for oil or solar products, Bahlil said that the import of CN 48 type solar would be stopped starting early 2026, then continued to CN 51 solar in the second semester of 2026.
Not only diesel and gasoline, continued Bahlil, the government will also stop importing aircraft fuel or avtur. Later, he said, the government will ask PT Pertamina (Persero) to convert a surplus of 1.4 million KL of solar into avtur raw materials.
"So what we import is only RON 90, which is for subsidies," he said.
With this step, by 2027 Indonesia is expected to no longer import solar fuel types CN48 and CN51, avtur, and gasoline RON 92, 95, and 98.
"This is so that in 2027 we will not import jet fuel, solar, and gasoline with RON 92, 95, 98," said Bahlil.
