Phil Foden Has Chance to Play Against Bodo/Glimt after Breaking Hand in Manchester Derby
JAKARTA - Phil Foden is likely to play for Manchester City against Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, early morning WIB, despite suffering a broken hand in the weekend's match.
The England midfielder was replaced at half-time in Manchester Derby's 0-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after landing awkwardly on his arm.
Pep Guardiola's manager has confirmed the injury, but the problem did not stop Foden from joining the squad to northern Norway for the Champions League match.
"He has a little bit of a broken bone, but he has protection and he's fine for tomorrow," Guardiola told a news conference ahead of the game.
In addition, Guardiola also seems to dismiss the notion that Erling Haaland, who is usually productive - but has not scored from an open game in his last seven games - may be rested when he goes to Norway.
"He told me that he slept very well, so he was in great shape," Guardiola said of the Norwegian striker, who has scored 39 goals for club and country this season.
Manchester Derby's defeat was very disappointing for the Citizens, extending their winless streak in the English League to four matches and allowing Arsenal to increase their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
However, Guardiola wants to put aside talk of the match against the city rivals to focus on the European tournament and Manchester City's bid to secure a place in the Champions League group of eight.
"When we came here, we didn't talk about Manchester United at all. I think we will talk about it before Wolverhampton Wanderers, but now it's another event."
"We have the opportunity to qualify for the last eight. I think that's enough to focus on, not what happened in the past."
"I didn't review the match, but I know Manchester United is better. When they are better, you just have to congratulate them, improve their performance, and continue," Guardiola said again.
