Aceh Reduces 3,000 ASN to Volunteers, Ensure Residents Continue to Be Served in the Middle of the Disaster

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh government has deployed around 3,000 state civil servants (ASN) to volunteer in various areas affected by flash floods and landslides in the province.

The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Aceh, M Nasir, said that the assignment of ASN was part of an effort to ensure that the community continued to receive basic services in the midst of emergency situations due to disasters.

"The assignment of these ASN is part of efforts to ensure that the community continues to receive basic services in difficult times. The government is present, working, and caring," said Nasir in Banda Aceh, Antara, Sunday, December 28.

ASN volunteers not only help with physical recovery after disasters, but also ensure that basic community needs services continue to run.

They were deployed to support environmental cleanliness, access to public facilities, as well as health and social services for residents affected by floods and landslides since late November.

Nasir said that until the end of December, the emergency situation was still felt in several areas of Aceh. Floods, landslides, and extreme weather not only damage the environment, but also disrupt basic services and daily activities of the community.

In addition to the gotong royong activities to clean public facilities and houses of worship from mud and flood debris, ASN volunteers also helped coordinate health services, support vulnerable groups, and strengthen social services in the field.

He emphasized that the presence of ASN at the disaster site was a manifestation of the government's empathy and solidarity with the affected community.

"We not only come with tools and personnel, but also concern. ASN goes down directly to hear, see, and feel what the residents experience," he said.

Nasir added that the assignment of ASN volunteers is still preliminary and will continue to be adjusted to the development of conditions in the field.

"The Aceh government ensures that all handling steps are carried out in a coordinated manner, prioritizing the safety of volunteers and respecting local wisdom," said Nasir.
