Gugun GBS Soroti Culture of Foreign Music Industry that is Rare in Indonesia
JAKARTA - Gugun with several of his musical entities including Gugun Blues Shelter has built a strong foundation for blues music on an industrial scale in the country's music industry. From the beginning of pioneering to the present, he has gone through many struggles and challenges, especially carrying a genre that is considered niche.
Not only challenging the issue of introducing genres, there are many other factors that are also part of the struggle. One of them is the culture of the music industry.
The Blues Shelter band has experienced various stages both at home and abroad. A line-up of festivals in England, the Netherlands to gigs in New Orleans have adorned his musical portfolio.
With that musical experience, Gugun saw that there was a music industry culture that helped nourish regeneration. Abroad he saw the form of musicians supporting musicians more visible.
English:
"There is one thing that is lacking here, according to me. There is no musician supports musician. The climate, if you are abroad, I often notice, from the old days to now, like when Aerosmith opened Black Rose, which was still new at that time," he said in an exclusive interview recently.
"So these new bands are always supported, if they can support bands that have existed for a long time. Now yes. Black Rose is big, right," he added.
The culture is still running in the foreign music industry until now. Not only bands in the rock or metal scene, names in the mainstream also do the same thing, like Taylor Swift or Coldplay. Gugun feels that culture has not been built in Indonesia.
"I've asked some seniors and journalists, they're not here. There are no musicians supporting musicians. So it's just going on its own. Lu fight it, fight it alone. I've never seen the band's tour, what the Opening is, which may also be 8 or 10 cities. The Opening is still there," he said.
Gugun Blues Shelter is still alive and working. He will release the album Coming Out in vinyl, which will be launched on December 18 tomorrow.
