JAKARTA - The North Penajam Paser Regency Government (Pemkab) in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) has set a disaster alert status as a step to anticipate hydrometeorology that has the potential to occur in the rainy season.

The public is also advised, especially those in flood-prone areas and on riverbanks to increase vigilance.

"Mapping areas prone to flooding and landslides has been carried out, there are a number of areas that are categorized as prone to floods and landslides," he explained.

From this arrangement, flood-prone areas include Lawe-Lawe Village, Nenang Village, Penajam Village, Riko Village and Bukit Subur Village in Penajam District.

"In Sepaku District, among others, Sepaku Village, Sukaraja Village and Karang Jinawi Village," he said.

BPBD Penajam Paser Utara Regency also mitigates several river flows in areas that are categorized as flood-prone.

"The mitigation was carried out, according to him, to detect the flow of rivers experiencing silting," he explained.

The results of the mitigation will be recommended to the North Penajam Paser Regency Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office, for river flow normalization and silting channels to be silted, said Muhammad Sukadi Kuncoro.
