Light Rain In Many Regions Of Indonesia Today, Beware Of Lightning In Several Cities
JAKARTA The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain will flush a number of parts of Indonesia on Thursday, December 11. The public is advised to prepare for personal protection, including umbrellas and raincoats.
BMKG forecaster, Miftah Ali, said that the weather on Sumatra Island is expected to be thick cloudy in Banda Aceh, while light rain has the opportunity to occur in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Pangkalpinang.
"The city of Palembang has the potential to rain with moderate intensity, and be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in Bandar Lampung City," Miftah said as quoted by Antara.
On the island of Java, thick cloudy weather is estimated to cover Yogyakarta. Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, and Semarang have the potential to experience light rain. "Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in the city of Surabaya," he said.
For the Kalimantan region, light rain is predicted to hit Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda. BMKG also appealed to Pontianak and Banjarmasin residents to be aware of thunderstorms.
In the Bali and Nusa Tenggara areas, Mataram is forecasted to be thick cloudy, while Denpasar and a number of areas in Nusa Tenggara have the potential for light rain. "Be aware of thunderstorms that can occur in the Kupang area," said Miftah.
On the island of Sulawesi, thick cloudy weather is predicted to occur in Gorontalo. Light rain has the potential to fall in Palu, Manado, and Makassar. Meanwhile in Maluku, light rain is predicted to occur in Ternate and Ambon.
For the Papua region, Sorong is predicted to experience running air, while Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke have the potential to be hit by light rain.

Furthermore, BMKG explained that there are 91S cyclone seeds in the Indian Ocean west of Lampung which are moving east. In the next 48 72 hours, this system is expected to weaken with a maximum wind speed of around 1015 knots.
