Arsenal Should Not Be Complacent When Leading The Premier League And Champions League Standings

JAKARTA - Arsenal were warned not to be complacent after a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich on Thursday, November 27, 2025, early morning WIB.

The victory made the Gunners now firmly at the top of the 2025/2026 Champions League group stage standings with a perfect record, 15 points from five wins.

The latest three points were obtained thanks to goals from Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Martinelli who gave Bayern Munich's first defeat at any event this season.

Young Lennart Karl equalized after Timber's opener in the 32nd minute, but Madueke and Martinelli came off the bench to turn Arsenal around in the impressive second half and brought them to the top of the Premier League and Champions League standings.

Arteta did not doubt the importance of a decent victory over the top of the Bundesliga standings.

"I have to praise our players because I think they played amazingly against, in my opinion, the best team in Europe."

"Individually, we played extraordinary to overcome all the challenges these teams present."

"They know how hard we are preparing for every game. We know the goal difference is very thin," said Arteta.

The victory was even more special because Arsenal had three-quarters of the way through the difficult week. Before crushing Bayern Munich, they had beaten London rival Tottenham Hotspur, with a score of 4-1 in the Premier League.

The Gunners' heavy week closed on a trip to London rivals again, Chelsea, on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

"We started this week very well against Spurs, winning at home. Today (against Bayern Munich) is another big win, but that's all."

"We are very consistent in competitions so far, but this is just the beginning. We are very happy with what we saw today."

"Once again, the energy we created in the stadium, what the team emitted, the energy we carry, the quality of our game, is extraordinary. We have to defend it because it's still very early," said Arteta.

Therefore, Declan Rice asked all his colleagues to remain grounded and not be complacent about the euphoria of important victories in the domestic league and Champions League.

"Look at Bayern Munich this season, they are the best team in Europe. This may be the hardest game we've played tactically this season. The way they play is very, very good."

"We played one on one with them in the second half and I think we were amazing. The manager was very happy. It was a special European night."

"Yes, of course (it feels different from last season). There are so many leaders in the team. We only have one game after another."

"There is hunger and a desire to win every game. The road is still long, don't get too excited," Rice said.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's win was a sweet comeback after Arsenal lost in the Champions League quarter-finals two seasons ago.

"We are different, they are also different. It was a different chapter in this event. The difference in the score was very thin in that match, the way we were eliminated. However, it was in the past. Hopefully we learn, we are better off, and we have to show it," said Arteta.
