Pornhub Urges Apple And Google To Apply Age Verification Tools On Their Devices

JAKARTA - Pornhub, the Luxembourg-based adult video website urged technology giants Apple, Google, and Microsoft to implement an age verification system on their respective devices.

Through a letter sent earlier this month by Pornhub's parent company, Aylo, this urge is intended to free the company from increasingly expensive obligations to ensure its users are over 18 years of age.

"We strongly recommend device-based age guarantees where the user's age is specified once on the device, and the age range can be used to create 'age signals' communicated to the website," reads a letter from Chief Legal Officer Aylo Anthony Penhale received by the Luxembourg Times.

Because according to him, if the age verification system can be integrated directly into the device's operating system (such as Microsoft's Xbox), this will empower age checks to these technology companies.

This letter was sent after age verification to access its website was imposed, which caused traffic to Pornhub to plummet in the UK and the US state of Louisiana.

Pornhub also cut off its services in nearly half of the 50 US states where the law was enacted. Where the law generally requires users who wish to access the Pornhub site to carry out age verification with official identity documents, facial recognition scans, or other methods prove brands over 18.

Traffic to Pornhub is down about 80% in Louisiana, but we know that people don't stop consuming porn overnight because of this new law. They just easily move to pirated, illegal sites, or other non-compliant sites, "explained the company.

To the Financial Times, Aylo revealed that Pornhub lost 77% of its traffic in the UK after the country began requiring adult websites to implement age verification for all users last July.
