Sentences Increase To 12 Years, Vadel Badjideh Officially Files Cassation

JAKARTA - Vadel Badjideh's party has resumed its legal action by officially filing an appeal. This step was taken in response to the previous court's decision which was deemed not to have fulfilled the sense of justice for the defendant.

Vadel's attorney, Oya Abdul Malik, was present at the South Jakarta District Court to submit the cassation memorandum file.

"Today's agenda is to include a memorandum of cassation," said Oya Abdul Malik, Vadel Badjideh's attorney at the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, November 24.

According to Oya, this cassation submission is not just a formality, but a serious effort to re-substitute existing legal facts. He hopes that the panel of judges at the cassation level can examine case files more carefully and in depth.

"(The reason for submitting the cassation) Yes, confirm the facts of the trial, outline more in detail. Hope this is really read, really reviewed," said Oya.

One of the main points emphasized in the cassation memory is a review of scientific evidence. Oya emphasized that the results of medical examinations and expert statements should be the main consideration.

"What is the evidence, what are the testimonies of forensic experts, what are the results of the post-mortem, everything is attached. So read it, please read it," he continued.

This cassation step was taken after Vadel felt disappointed with the decision at the appeal level or the High Court. Although reluctant to specify one by one, Oya implies dissatisfaction with the previous judicial process.

"(The decision of the High Court) There are many irregularities, only I don't want to say it, I'm already lazy," said Oya.

Closing his statement, Oya emphasized her commitment to continuing to fight for her client's rights to the last drop of blood. He made sure he would not give up in seeking justice for Vadel Badjideh.

"I said I would not stop until the seventh sky," he continued.

For information, the DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) has increased the sentence for content creator Vadel Badjideh in cases of sexual intercourse with minors and illegal abortions.

In the appeal decision read out on November 5, 2025, the panel of judges led by Sri Andini, SH, MH sentenced Vadel to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 6 months.

"The defendant was sentenced to 12 (twelve) years in prison and a fine of Rp1,000,000,000, - (one billion rupiah), if the fine was not paid, it was replaced with imprisonment for 6 (six) months," reads the verdict, quoted by VOI, Thursday, November 6.

The panel of judges at the appeal level considered that Vadel's actions caused deep trauma to the victim and showed strong malicious intent (mens rea).

"The defendant's actions have clearly caused deep trauma to the victim's child, also affecting the condition of the victim's child in the future," the judge considered in the decision.

This decision also changes the verdict of the South Jakarta District Court Number 359 / Pid.Sus / 2025 / PN Jkt.Sel, which previously on October 1, 2025 sentenced him to 9 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 3 months in prison.
