Gaza's Armistice Mediator Meets In Cairo To Discuss Second Stage
JAKARTA - Delegations from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, which were the joint mediators of the United States in a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, met in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday to discuss the second stages of the deal, Egyptian state media reported.
Al-Qahera News reported that the meeting was attended by Egypt and Turkey's intelligence chiefs, along with Qatar's Prime Minister.
The delegates discussed cooperation with the US "to ensure the successful implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement" between Israel and Hamas, the channel reported, as reported by Al Arabiya from AFP Nov. 26.
Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the US acted as mediators and guarantors for the Gaza deal, which took effect on October 10 after two years of war.
Cairo's meeting came two days after senior Hamas delegation met with Egypt's intelligence chief Hassan Rashad to discuss the second phase of the ceasefire.
The stage includes the dismantling of Hamas weapons, the formation of transitional authorities, and the deployment of international stabilization troops consisting of foreign troops to the Gaza Strip.
According to Al-Qahera News, Tuesday's meeting discussed "overcoming obstacles and limiting violations to ensure the ceasefire remains in effect."
Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
