The most emotional reaction came from Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who called Mani his hero.

Mani was born in Crumpsall, Manchester, on November 16, 1962. He left school at the age of 16 and formed an important friendship with Ian Brown.

In the early 1980s, Mani and John Squire and Andy Couzens formed a band called The Fireside Chaps. After experiencing several name changes and line-ups including the joining of Ian Brown as vocalists, they transformed into The Stone Roses.

Mani himself was originally a guitarist, but turned to bass when his band changed its name to The Waterfront.

The Stone Roses released their self-titled debut album produced by John Leckie in 1989. The album quickly became one of the main milestones in the Madchester movement, combining indie music with rare culture.

Mani had revealed that being part of The Stone Roses had saved his life, after watching 17 of his friends die of heroin addiction.

After the Stone Roses disbanded in 1996, Mani immediately joined Primal Scream as bassist, who brought fresh air and creative revival to the band.

He remained a Primal Scream member until The Stone Roses held a reunion from 2011 to 2017.

Prior to this sad news, Mani recently announced plans to hold an extensive talk show tour in the UK from September 2026 to June 2027. The tour plans to discuss important moments in his career, including the 1990 Stone Roses show on Spike Island and their reunion tour in 2012.
