Ready To Release, WhatsApp Will Be Integrated With The Third Party Message Application In Europe

JAKARTA WhatsApp will launch an option to use third-party messaging services on its platform in the near future. This feature that prioritizes interoperability will be available specifically in Europe.

The platform under the auspices of Meta deliberately launched support for third-party services to comply with the Digital Market Act (DMA). Despite prioritizing interoperability, this feature called 'third-party conversation' still has requirements.

As explained in the Meta blog post, WhatsApp says that third-party messaging services can be accessed through its platform if the service also allows interoperability. This support will make the messaging ecosystem more open.

Prior to launch, WhatsApp had tested this feature for several months on a small scale across Europe. There are two third-party messaging services available in the initial testing, namely BirdyChat and Haiket.

Both will be the first partners integrated with WhatsApp. With this interoperability support, WhatsApp users in Europe, both on Android and iOS, can share various types of content.

The content that can be transferred includes text messages, pictures, voice messages, videos, and files. Later, WhatsApp will also support group chats with third-party applications if the partners are ready.

For example, users of the Haiket and WhatsApp applications can join the same group chat room without the need to download each app. This is a huge progress as WhatsApp has partnered for more than three years with the European messaging service and the European Commission to develop this capability.

It should be noted that the ability to connect with other messaging applications is fully optional. Users can enable or disable third-party chats whenever they want.

"We provide users with a simple orientation experience, while ensuring they understand the main difference between chats on WhatsApp and third-party chats," Meta said, quoted on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Over the coming months, WhatsApp users in the European Region will see notifications in their application Settings tab. This notification will guide them on how to activate and start connecting with people in third-party messaging apps.
