Blitar M 6.2 Earthquake, Kediri Residents Run Out Of Their Houses

KEDIRI - Several residents of Kediri City, East Java, felt the impact of the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 that shook the southeastern region of Blitar Regency.

"The earthquake was very strong. I was shocked, straight out of the house", said Memet, a resident of Banjaran Village, Kediri City quoted by Antara, Friday, May 21.

So do the other citizens. Nana, a resident who also lives in Kediri City claimed to feel a strong earthquake.

"It was hard and the shaking was long. I had time to hold on to the wall and wanted to run, it was getting slower and slower", Nana said.

Earthquake shocks were also felt in Blitar, Malang, and several other areas. In fact, residents who were shopping in the shopping center of the Blitar area also ran out of the building, because of the earthquake.

Video of residents running outside the building from a shopping mall in Blitar was also widely circulated on social networks. They were jostling to get out of the building. In fact, officers from the shopping center also directed visitors to leave the building immediately.

Meanwhile, the Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Blitar, Achmad Cholik, said that currently, he is still coordinating with the team in the field regarding whether or not there is damage caused by the earthquake.

"There have been no reports", he said.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 shook the southeastern region of Blitar Regency, on Friday at around 7:09 p.m.

According to the information of the Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was at 8.63 South Latitude, 112.34 East Longitude, as far as 57 kilometers Southeast of Blitar Regency with a depth of 110 kilometers.

BMKG meanwhile announced the earthquake is not potentially a tsunami.
