Police Data Reveals, Of The 332 Children Involved In Protests, 90 Percent Are Student Status

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police recorded 332 children involved in a demonstration that ended in chaos some time ago. Data compiled from 11 Polda throughout Indonesia, noted that more than 90 percent of children were involved in student status.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Komjen Pol Syahardiantono through a letter read by Deputy Kabareskrim Inspector General Nunung Syaifuddin at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme Inter-Institutional Synergy for the Protection of Rights for Children in Face to Law, Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

"The Directorate of PPA and PPO Crimes, Bareskrim Polri, as of November 3, 2025, noted that 332 children were involved in rioting cases at 11 Polda throughout Indonesia," said Nunung.

Nunung said that the East Java Regional Police took the highest position with a total of 144 children, followed by Central Java with 77 children, then West Java with 34 children, and Polda Metro Jaya with 36 children, and the rest scattered in DIY, NTB, Lampung, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Bali, and South Sumatra.

"Of the total 332 children, 160 children have undergone diversion, 37 children are handled with a restorative justice approach, 28 children are in stage 1, the stage 1 file, then 73 children are in stage 2, while 34 children are already P21," he said.

Nunung said that more than 90 percent of the children involved were junior high school students to vocational schools, some were still participating in the package pursuit program. However, most of them are not pure criminals, but are dragged away because they follow, are mobilized by the masses, or do not understand the legal consequences of their actions.

"When a child falls into violence, riots, or other legal processes, he is shaken not only in his future, but also in our conscience and civilization as a nation," he stressed.
