The Body Is Vulnerable To Ill During The Transition Season, Why?

JAKARTA - In the last few days, Indonesia has entered the transition season, where the weather is erratic with heavy heat and rain. This transition has made many people susceptible to illness such as flu and cough, especially in children.

Pediatrician, dr. Ian Suryadi Suteja, M.Med Sc, Sp.A, explained that many people are prone to illness during the transition season because the body is focusing on adapting to extreme weather.

"In this transitional season, the average person's immune system will decrease, because earlier the body was focusing on adapting to weather changes that were too extreme," said Doctor Ian, during a media meeting in Sudirman, Jakarta, on Friday, October 31, 2025.

In the transition season, temperatures also experience changes in pressure. This condition makes the body respond to adapting to various changes that occur, until antibodies decrease.

"Because our bodies are stressed, the body is unable to produce sufficient antibodies. Because we should produce enough antibodies, but our bodies don't focus too much on producing endurance anymore," he explained.

In addition, during the transition season, the wind is usually faster, which can facilitate the spread of the virus. This also makes the body susceptible to diseases such as flu, cough, and fever.

"With the wind change so fast it blows, it's even easier to spread germs, it's easier to transfer. So, this series of weather changes make viruses or germs easier to spread," he added.

Therefore, it is important for every individual to maintain endurance in the transitional season. Starting from implementing clean living behavior such as wearing a mask, diligently washing hands, and consuming nutritious food.

"Evidently eating vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc also increases endurance. Everywhere you wear a mask, if you cough or runny nose, it's really annoying, don't go to school or work first," concluded Doctor Ian.
