Beware Of Breast Cancer Risks In Men, Steroid Drugs Become One Of The Triggers

JAKARTA - Breast cancer is often associated with women, even though men have the same risk, although cases are less frequent.

Many are not yet aware of anatomy, men also have breast glands that can be a place for cancer cells to grow when the hormonal balance is disturbed.

One of the trigger factors comes from habits that are often overlooked, such as the use of steroids to accelerate muscle formation in fitness centers. This phenomenon is increasingly prevalent among men who want to get an ideal body shape in a short time, regardless of long-term effects on health.

"The breast cancer can occur in men as well. The presentation in Indonesia is around 5'7 percent, a little," said General Surgeon Specialist Eka Hospital Depok, dr. Feyona Heliani Subrata, Sp.B at a media discussion held in Jakarta, recently.

Although the cases tend to be small, cases of breast cancer in men have only been detected after the advanced stage. Most think the bump in the chest is only an injury due to exercise or minor collisions.

"Usually male patients just wake up after the lump gets bigger, because right and left it's definitely not the same," he said.

Doctor Feyona said that the use of hormonal drugs such as steroids is one of the causes that are quite often encountered in male patients with breast cancer.

In this case, steroids can indeed accelerate muscle formation, but can interfere with the natural hormone balance in the body.

"I've had two patients, male breast cancer. Both of them dig out using steroids, hormonal drugs. steroid drugs can trigger hormonal imbalance. In a man's body there is also an estrogen hormone, although a little, so he triggers this hormonal, so cancer grows," explained dr. Feyona.

Anatomically, men also have breast gland tissue, although the number is less than that of women. However, this gland can still be a place for cancer cells to grow if there is a hormonal imbalance.

Therefore, signs such as lumps, pain, or changes in the chest area should not be ignored. Early detection can significantly increase healing opportunities.

According to dr. Feyona, the method of treating breast cancer in men is no different from in women, ranging from surgery to chemotherapy and hormonal therapy, depending on the level of ferocity and the results of laboratory tests.

However, the main difference lies in the diagnosis time, most male patients come to doctors when the disease has developed because they do not expect cancer to grow in that area.

There are still many men who consider breast cancer as a woman's disease, even though awareness of this risk is very important. Education about the dangers of using steroids without medical supervision, as well as regular self-examination, is the main step for prevention.

"Prea patients usually think that the lump was caused by a collision or ordinary illness, even though it was an initial sign. So don't wait until it hurts," he asserted.

For men who are actively exercising, especially using hormonal supplements, routine examinations such as breast ultrasound or biopsy can help detect abnormalities from an early age.
