US President Sheinbaum Protests Lifting 13 Mexican Flight Routes
JAKARTA - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum objected to the US decision to revoke 13 Mexican airline routes to the United States and cancel the joint passenger and cargo flights from Felipe Angeles International Airport in Mexico City.
Reported by Reuters on Wednesday, October 29, Sheinbaum will ask for a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and the US Secretary of State to review the basics of these "lateral actions". He believes understanding can be achieved.
On Tuesday, Transport Minister Sean Total said Mexico "illegally canceled and frozen US airline flights for three years without any consequences."
The Department of Transportation said Mexico had not complied with a bilateral aviation agreement since 2022 when Mexico canceled the US passenger airline slot and forced US cargo airlines to relocate its operations.
Sheinbaum said he would meet with Mexican airlines on Friday to get an idea of their perspective on the matter.

Mexican airline Volaris said in a statement they were analyzing the scope of the action.
"The cargo regulation will have a minor impact on Volaris, due to the company's minimal participation in cargo services between Mexico City International Airport and its goals in the United States," the airline said.
