Netflix Tests Vertical Video Feed In Mobile, But Doesn't Want To Compete With TikTok
JAKARTA Netflix will add vertical video support on its platform. This capability will be tested as part of a content expansion experiment.
This strategy was revealed by Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Tuesday, October 28. Despite trying to add vertical videos to its platform, Stone said they had no intention of competing with TikTok.
However, Stone admits that Netflix needs to take advantage of mobile platforms in a more diverse way. According to Stone, this innovation is also the answer to consumer habits in seeking 'lighter' viewing.
"We are testing vertical video feeds on mobile devices that are starting to reorganize the meaning of cellular means," Stone explained. This feature is believed to be meeting the needs of consumers wherever they are.
This vertical feed originally featured short clips of the original title. However, Netflix seems to have bigger plans for this feed, for example such as the Moments feature that allows users to cut and share their favorite scenes.

Stone hinted at the potential to include these Moments short clips into a vertical video feed. Netflix will test with 'various types of content' and 'various ways to overtake and share content' on a vertical feed.
Other experiments will involve podcasts, in line with Netflix's latest deal with Spotify to distribute audio content on its platform. This podcast content will be present on mobile devices and TVs.
Users are expected to see the results of this trial in the coming quarters and continue throughout 2026. There is no certainty when this feature will be officially released to the public.
