Residents Of Kebon Pala Claim To Be Used To Being Flooded Due To The Ciliwung River Overflowing

JAKARTA - Hundreds of houses located in RT 05 and RT 11 in the Kebon Pala area, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta, were again flooded on Tuesday, October 28, morning.

The floods that hit the residential area were of varying height depending on the conditions of the basins in the area.

Based on VOI observations, the flood submerged residential areas from a height of 20 cm to 125 cm. According to local residents, the flooding in this area was due to the overflow of the Ciliwung river which was on the residential side.

"(The cause) is raining, but it's not the impact of the flood here, this is because it was sent from Bogor (the water overflow of the ciliwung river)," said Jhoni, a local resident to reporters, Tuesday morning.

The flood disaster had disrupted the activities of local residents. Residents were forced to move their valuables to a safer place, namely on the 2nd floor of their house.

However, no residents fled even though their houses were flooded. Residents choose to stay in their homes.

They also did not expect any effort from the government. The reason is, the floods that hit their settlements have been going on for a long time even though the Ciliwung river is routinely dredged and normalized.

"What is the hope of this flood, for residents, we have considered it a normal (flood) thing," he said.

Residents also use used tires to cross flood puddles. Jhoni said the flood inundation had occurred since Tuesday morning with an initial height of 1 meter.

On Tuesday morning, the water level increased.

"At around 4 o'clock the water rose quickly. It's almost rising again just a bit slow. Now (water level) is 100-125 cm," he said.

Just so you know, floods in this area have occurred twice this week.
